Product Description

'Day of the Western Sunrise' is a Japanese language, animated documentary that follows three surviving crew men from Daigo Fukuryu Maru, or the Lucky Dragon No. 5. On March 1st, 1954, the 23 crew men were fishing off the coast of the Marshall Islands when the US detonated Castle Bravo, an early test of a thermonuclear weapon. The light from the blast was so intense the fishermen thought the sun had risen in the west.

This is a World Premiere Event for 'Day of the Western Sunrise.' This documentary film was made in Pittsburgh, and we couldn't be happier to release it here! Sponsorship by our partners at Green Mountain Energy means that 100% of ticket sales will be donated to the Daigo Fukuryu Maru Exhibition Hall in Tokyo, Japan. This museum houses the Lucky Dragon No 5 itself, and uses grants and donations to further its educational outreach about Castle Bravo and the Lucky Dragon No 5.

The price of admission gets you access to the film, a pre-film lecture about the historical context of our subject matter, access to source and research material, and Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. The filmmaking team will be present for all three screenings and able to answer questions about process, history, technical aspects, and much more!

Refunds & Exchanges
Before purchasing tickets, carefully review your event and showtime. There are no refunds, returns, or exchanges for special events or one time film screenings. All store credit will only be for the face value of the ticket (no store credit on service fees or taxes). Store credits can be picked up at the Row House concession stand at no additional cost. We are able to mail you the store credit as a gift card for a $2 fee for shipping and handling. There are no refunds, returns, or exchanges for regular film screenings less than 48 hours away.

A regular film screening is defined as a film, shown multiple times per week, priced at our regularly published prices. An one time film screening is a film, shown only one time, which could be at our regularly published prices or higher. Everything else is a special event, which includes a film shown multiple times per week, but this particular showtime is at a higher price than our regularly published prices, includes additional activities, or comes with additional items.
