Product Description

Join Row House Cinema and other theaters across the nation as we watch George Orwell's 1984 together, on April 4th, the same day that Orwell's novel opens on protagonist Winston Smith jotting down thoughts in a forbidden diary.

Orwell's portrait of a government that manufactures their own facts, demands total obedience, and demonizes foreign enemies, has never been timelier. The endeavor encourages theaters to take a stand for our most basic values: freedom of speech, respect for our fellow human beings, and the simple truth that there are no such things as 'alternative facts.'

About 1984

In a dystopian 1984, Winston Smith (John Hurt) endures a squalid existence in the totalitarian superstate of Oceania under the constant surveillance of the Thought Police. Winston works in a small office cubicle at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history in accordance with the dictates of the Party and its supreme figurehead, Big Brother.

Winston is an everyman who keeps a secret diary of his private thoughts, thus creating evidence of his thoughtcrime. His thoughts move to rebellion when he falls in love.
